Anxiety

You may or may not remember my article about my big trip to the British Virgin Islands, well, it’s time…Finally.

I wrote about the excitement we all have before a trip, the planning, what to bring, what cool beach hotel to stay at and that feeling of something to look forward to.

Well, let me tell you this has been a big eye opener and although I have had waives of excitement, I have experienced a new feeling I have never had before a trip. Anxiety. It feels so incredibly different and has been difficult to navigate but I figured if I wrote about it would help me relax. I have the things I can control organized and prepared, and my logical mind knows that, but the other side of my brain is thinking, what if, what if, what if?

So, here is what I have been doing: deep breathing, a lot of deep breathing, visualizing the positive, seeing myself on the beach, on the boat, and swimming in the warm water. Knowing how healthy I am and that it will all work out has helped as well. I have been talking to my best friends, going for walks, working out, playing tennis, listening to an Audible book, cooking, and eating yummy dinners at home.

What I am learning at this very moment while writing this very article is I really have no control on covid, testing for covid, the results, plane schedules, or weather. What I do have control over is my breath, activity, eating healthy and thinking positive thoughts.

As a very wise person once told me, your mind is like a television and if you don’t like what you are hearing or seeing, “change the channel!!” That is exactly what I am going to do, change the channel on negative mind chatter and find a much better show.

I usually can bring it right back around to one of our Core Values we have here at the Club, I feel like Bring Confidence and Enjoy Life are very appropriate.

Remember to have confidence in your ability to achieve your goals and enjoy life no matter what the obstacles are or what you are doing.

Thank you for listing. I sure feel better now!
