CHANGE

Change-some of us have a very difficult time with it while others thrive off it or at the very least go with the flow.

My best friend Kelly, “hates it” because she is a planner and when something changes it really throws her off. I never understood why she couldn't just except it but as I got to know her, now going on 30 years, I realized everyone handles change differently because of their life experiences and personality traits.

She has now learned coping skills so when there is a big change she has no control over she works through it before she panics. She now understands what triggers her and how to “go with the flow” much more then she used to.

Kelly and I have talked many times about why change is so hard for some, while others have an easier time. I have always thought of it like this, change is inevitable, I know that I cannot control everything, and change is a chance to learn and improve. It might be difficult, painful, and uncomfortable but it is part of life.

Part of our Club Credo is “Always Improve”. I fully believe that there is room for improvement in any area of life and it is only through self-awareness and self-study that you can learn and improve during and after change.

There is a lot of change going on in my life, with family and at work, but for me I take it on as a challenge. Meeting it head on, knowing that I can improve, learn, and have faith that everything happens for a reason.

The old saying, “When one door closes another one opens” is another great way to look at change, but just as Alexander Graham Bell said, “we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us”.

What a great reminder, to accept change and make sure to look for that open door, there may be something even better on the other side of it.
