Matt-Grateful

May 18, 2020

Greetings!

The month of Thanksgiving is upon us and I believe it is a good time to take a breather and make a mental list of all the things that we are thankful for in this fast a crazy world.

One thing I know for sure is we are all lucky to be part of the Bellingham Training & Tennis Club. Being able to come to a place to keep yourself healthier and happier is really a luxury that we should all be grateful for. Like my mother would tell us when we complained about having to eat the Lima beans "be grateful for having this food when there are starving people in in this world." It is also a good time to possibly go out of your normal routine and give something back to someone or some place that is in need. Here is my list for Thankful November:

  • I am thankful that I have such a great family

  • I am Thankful for having a job that I enjoy

  • I am Thankful for all the friends I have made throughout my 63 years

  • I am Thankful that we have raised my family in Bellingham

  • I will be helpful and volunteer some hours for the Jingle Bell Run

  • I am Thankful for the BTTC members

  • I am Thankful for the BTTC staff! The quality of all the staff members we have is phenomenal.

  • I will work on letting my family, friends, and fellow employees know how much I appreciate them

I usually don't like to toot my horn too often, but I want to let all of you know that I work on keeping up to date and improving in my profession. I have been officially elected as the president of the USPTA PNW Board for the 2020-2022 term.

We are very involved in making the standards for all teaching pros much more stringent to ensure quality and safety when a pro is hired. I have been a tester for the USPTA for several years and we have moved from a testing a pro for a weekend and a few other online tests to making the process more like the PGA. All pro's that get certified will have to have had 1200 hours of mentored court hours along with some testing and online classes before they can become a certified Professional.

I truly believe this is great for the game and better for all tennis clubs being able to hire with confidence. All of our pro's are USPTA certified.  Along with that note 2 of our pro's have some great news.

Griffin Wood is officially our Junior Development Coordinator so he will be helping me with many of the Junior activities that we run throughout the year.

Cooper Anderson has also been elected to the USPTA board as one of the 2 NW Washington representatives for the USPTA PNW board. It will be great to have Cooper on the board and that BTTC is represented so well in the PNW.

For such a little club in little old Bellingham we have a strong voice. What a great place to be!

Don't forget the USTA sanctioned Holiday Open is just around the corner. The USTA has asked us to add a few more NTRP divisions so keep an eye out your division should be there. That's it for now. Happy Holidays and Thanks for helping us be such a fun club to come to on a daily basis.
