Taking Care Of Ourselves & Our Mental Health
Jan 18, 2022
Hi all,
My name is Kristyn, and I’m one of the Personal Trainers here at BTTC! If we haven’t met, hello! Chances are if we have not, you may have heard me accidentally yelling throughout the club.
Since Tyler is very busy saving the world and kittens from trees, I thought I would take on the newsletter this month!
These past couple months have had me thinking a great deal on how important it is to take care of ourselves and our mental health.
I know that most of you are coming to the club and taking care of yourself physically, which is absolutely wonderful! But I wonder how many of you are taking care of yourselves emotionally and mentally. It’s been easy to lose sight of staying internally healthy, when we continue to face a sea of uncertainty.
Given the ongoing pandemic (either 3 years or 10, I’m not sure how long it has been), it’s certainly hard to stay positive. There is a tangible edginess in the air, and easy to take out our frustrations on one another. We have adapted to a higher and unmitigated level of stress creating a new (and taxing) “normal” status quo.
I want to urge all of us to have grace and patience for ourselves, and be gentle. Allow emotions to come and go, and avoid stifling. So many of us have lost loved ones, lost our way of life, and lost our vision of what the future held.
Have grace with yourself to work through the pain, confusion, and even apathy. We are all doing the best we can. Our ongoing healing is not linear.
During the times when you do feel good, celebrate! Enjoy and be present whenever the opportunity presents itself. It hasn’t been easy, but together we can get through it. A compliment to a stranger, a smile down the hallway, these small gestures can help each other move along, bit by bit.
As the late great Princess Carrie Fisher once said, “If my life wasn’t funny, it would just be true, and that is unacceptable.” So let’s laugh at the funny any time we can, and continue to move our bodies in a meaningful and enjoyable way whenever possible.
